Privacy Policy

Sona ("Sona," "we," "us") helps children practice their speech sounds at home,
alongside their speech therapy. We built Sona for kids, so protecting their privacy — and giving
parents control — is central to how it works. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the
choices you have.
For parents & guardians. Sona is intended to be set up and managed by a
parent or guardian. A child should only use Sona with a parent's permission and involvement. You
can review or delete your child's information at any time by emailing
wardroptravis@gmail.com.
Information we collect
- Account & setup details — a parent's email address (for the account and
subscription) and the information you choose to add to personalize practice, such as a child's
first name and age, and the target speech sounds they're working on.
- Practice activity — which games and sounds are practiced, attempts, scores,
streaks, and progress, so the app can show progress and adapt the level.
- Voice recordings — when a child practices, Sona records short audio clips of
them saying the target words so their pronunciation can be scored and feedback can be given.
- Optional names you provide — if you add names of family members or friends
to personalize daily stories, that text is used to generate those stories.
- Payment information — handled by our payment processor (Stripe). We do not
receive or store full card numbers.
- Basic device/usage data — standard technical information (e.g., app version,
general device type) needed to run and troubleshoot the service.
How we use information
- To provide speech practice — model sounds, score pronunciation, give feedback, and track progress.
- To personalize practice (the right sounds, level, and friendly encouragement).
- To create the progress summary you can choose to share with your speech-language pathologist.
- To operate, secure, and improve the service, and to provide customer support.
- To manage subscriptions and process payments.
How voice recordings are handled
Voice clips are sent securely to our speech-scoring provider to evaluate how the target sound
was produced and return a score. Recordings are used only to provide pronunciation
feedback within Sona. We do not use children's recordings for advertising, we do
not sell them, and we do not use them to build advertising profiles. Sona does not
retain practice recordings after they have been scored.
Service providers we share data with
We share limited information with trusted providers only so the service can function:
- Speech scoring — processes voice clips to return a pronunciation score.
- Text-to-speech — turns the practice words and prompts into the spoken voice
you hear. (We send the words to be spoken, not your child's recordings.)
- Story & coaching generation (AI) — generates practice stories and
coaching tips; this may include a child's first name or names you've added, to personalize the story.
- Payments — Stripe processes subscriptions.
- Hosting — our hosting provider runs the service infrastructure.
These providers may only use the information to perform their service for Sona.
Analytics & advertising
We do not show advertising in Sona, and we do not allow
behavioral/ad tracking of children. We never place analytics or advertising trackers on the
children's practice screens. Limited, privacy-respecting analytics may run only on adult-facing
pages of our website (such as marketing and parent setup) to understand general usage. The
Sona iOS app contains no third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
Sona is directed to children and designed to be used under a parent's or guardian's supervision.
We collect only the information needed to provide speech practice, and we treat children's
information accordingly:
- A parent/guardian sets up the account and consents to Sona collecting the information described above.
- We do not condition a child's participation on disclosing more information than is reasonably necessary.
- We do not knowingly use children's personal information for advertising, and we do not sell it.
- Parents can review the personal information we have about their child, ask us to delete it, and
refuse further collection, by contacting us.
If you believe a child has provided us information without a parent's involvement, please contact
us and we will delete it.
Your choices & rights
- Access & deletion — email us to review or delete your or your child's information.
- Cancel — you can cancel your subscription at any time.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information; contact us to exercise them.
Data retention & security
We keep account and progress information for as long as your account is active, and delete it on
request. We use reasonable safeguards (including encrypted connections) to protect information. No
method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Sona evolves. We'll revise the "last updated" date above and, for
material changes, provide a more prominent notice.
